Streetright Laminesto - How and Why would we rise again |
] |
That show was the best show in the world. I think, if i do not do anything else this summer, i would be happy. Streetlight Manifesto played in the pouring rain and lightning, similar to Bad Religion at Warped Tours' 10th year Anniversary in Pompano. It was great. They played all the great songs and when they closed Tom announced that this was the best show on tour yet, i wonder if he says that to every city? Very cool.
Reel Big Fish played for 2 days, as per usual. They had a pretty lengthy set but their stage presence is magnetic so the performance wasn't bad at all. however, they're still doing the same gimmicks (masters of genres, whos here that's never seen us before, etc.etc.) so if you didn't see them this time its alright..you didn't miss out on anything new.
AAA was there too, they were amazing and rocked the place before the monsoon came. Best part was when they dedicated a song to the people watching from the upper floors of the parking garage. They played Hard As Fuck, so i was happy. They said "it's good to be back in Florida" and i thought it was cool how i saw the first and last shows of the tour.
What an awesome night. That was the most intense streetlight performance i've ever seen, definitely the best since Ska is Dead.

I watched that "story behind Star Wars" thing on the History channel with some trepidation. Could they really do ANOTHER Star Wars special and overcome the risk of re-hashing re-hashed hash? Star Wars has been around for awhile, and the monumental fan base has covered nearly every topic conceivable. But this was different. This special analyzed, with scholarly precision, the different themes and character archetypes within the Star Wars saga and drew parallels to other great literary works.
Very fucking cool!!!
And finally, i have to defend Jar Jar Binks. Everyone hates him, but that's okay. He's necessary. See, he was the Senator who proposed the bill that gave Palpatine his "Emergency Powers" and thus made him the de-facto emperor of the Republic. If you listen to the dialouge in Attack of The Clones, you see Jar Jar's facial expressions change as he realizes that he can be "the brave senator" they speak of that can propose these powers. The emperor knew all along! He tried to have Padme assassinated, thus making her go into hiding, which in turn required her to appoint a stand-in senator, which was Jar Jar, who was so well intentioned but dim-witted that he couldn't see that he was being used, and thus proposed the bill! yes! yes! I did it! i'm the best! JAR JAR BINKS IS A NECESSARY CHARACTER.

Big D and The Kids Table: Shining On |

It's amazing to note the great amount of fluff one has to dig through to get to interesting journalism. I think presidents should be good leaders who listen to people. Read this article about Nixon:
http://www.alternet.org/story/12666/
Then let me ask you, doesn't that sound alot like the current political climate in which Bush flatly ignored the report released by the independent Iraq Study Group? Funny how history can repeat itself. It's just too bad that i can't figure out if this executive deja-vu means that people should listen more or if republicans are nothing more than a bunch of profiteering, hard-headed cunts.

I come home next friday or saturday. Not sure when, it depends on when everyone else is leaving here. My exams are monday at 7:30 in the AM and Thursday sometime whenever..
I have alot of shit i want/need to do in Tallahassee, but i just don't have the time or money. I'm slowly accepting that there are just going to be some things left undone. I'm ready to just pack up the chips i have left and leave the table. I feel defeated in some ways, alot of the goals i set out to accomplish here are being left unmet. But i guess that's just how things roll. Time to light up and drive off..enjoy the ride and have Big D's "Strictly Rude" keep me company. Stress release. I'm doing the best I can.

What's up everyone. On monday or tuesday i'm going to buy a painting. I'm very excited.
In other words, I went to Gainseville this weekend with my friend Dianna to see Against Me! and after waiting to get in for about an hour or so we were promptly kicked out by an overzealous bouncer who saw me take a sip of Dianna's drink. Well, that sucked. But afterwards we decided to go to Daytona Beach. It was real chill, like Boca back in the day before all of our coastline got privatized and over-developed.

i'm very very upset that the only fucking game on TV here is the Devil Rays at Yankees. I hate Tampa and we all know that Jesus hates the Yankees, so why aren't the fucking Marlins on TV? We're better than Tampa Bay. We've actually won a championship...two actually, and one of them against the Yankees! I guess...no..you COULD say, with absolute certainty, that the Marlins are better than the Yankees. Any dissenting Yankee fan who opens their fucking mouth to disagree with you should be promptly bludgeoned over the head with a large, wet fish.

Keep the net neutral!!!! This is really important..check it out:
WASHINGTON (AP) -- Sensing a revolution in the way Internet traffic is managed, rock and roll musicians find themselves in the unusual position of defending the status quo.
Independent, lesser-known musicians and smaller record labels have launched a nationwide campaign Tuesday to support the idea that all Internet traffic should be treated equally, which they said is under fire from Internet providers who want to charge a fee to have some Web sites load faster than others.
The Rock the Net campaign, made up mostly of musicians who are on smaller record labels or none at all, said they are fearful that if the so-called "Net neutrality" principle is abandoned their music may not be heard because they do not have the financial means to pay for preferential treatment.
Some said they do not want to pay. The Web, they said, has allowed many unknown musicians to put their music online, giving fans instant access to new music and giving bands greater marketing capabilities.
They said independent record labels are also on an equal Web footing with major players like Apple Inc.'s iTunes.
"It could be a pretty sad world where money alone buys the ears and anybody that can't afford it, can't get proper placement, is pushed off to the ghettos," said Derek Sivers, owner of CD Baby, an online store that sells compact discs by independent musicians.
The group is the latest to get involved in the Net neutrality issue.
SavetheInternet.com is a coalition of more than 800 groups -- ranging from liberal political groups, such as MoveOn.org, to conservative groups, such as the Christian Coalition of America -- that support the issue. That campaign was formed more than a year ago and is organized by Free Press, a national public interest group.
On the other side, phone and cable companies, including AT&T Inc., Verizon Communications Inc. and Comcast Corp., want the freedom to charge content providers for priority Web traffic. They contend any legislation affirming Net neutrality would harm investment and innovation in the Internet.
Former musician Jenny Toomey, who is now executive director of the Future of Music Coalition, a nonprofit advocacy group for independent musicians, said this issue is so important that it has even attracted some big name artists, such as R.E.M., Sarah McLachlan and even Kronos Quartet, a classical musical string ensemble.
"Never before have I been doing work for the music community where every single artist that we called said, 'Yes use my name. I'm on board to support this,"' she said during a teleconference Tuesday morning. Her group is one of the campaign's organizers.
Rep. Edward Markey, who chairs the House Subcommittee on Telecommunications and the Internet, said if Internet providers are allowed to start charging fees for preferential treatment then it will stifle innovation across many industries, not just music.
"This is nothing more than a new bottleneck fee, a corporate broadband tax that will discriminate against less powerful voices and those unable or unwilling to pay such discriminatory fees," he said during the teleconference.
He complained that the Federal Communications Commission isn't doing enough to protect Net neutrality.
However, the FCC said last week it will see if Internet providers are conducting any such discriminatory business practices.
It said it will study how high-speed Internet providers are managing traffic on their networks and if they're charging different prices for different speeds or levels of service. The FCC might adopt regulations to ensure all Web traffic is treated the same.
Besides the Future of Music Coalition, the Rock the Net campaign is sponsored by Noise Pop Industries, which sponsors an annual San Francisco music festival among other things, and Zeitgeist Artist Management, which manages musicians.
According to the campaign's Web site, 124 bands and 24 music labels support the initiative.

it's no wonder everyones so apathetic towards politics, the media advocates activism but yet if you go to PBC's website it's impossible to find ANY information about how to get an initiative on the ballot. I'll give someone 6, no, 20 bucks..scouts honor, if they can come up with an intelligent and correct explanation about how to get an initiative on the ballot and what that entails.

Leftover Crack - So You Wanna Be A Cop? |

Leftover Crack and Citizen Fish completely surprised me. They were both alot better than i thought they were gonna be. Citizen Fish apparently doesn't have horns on their studio albums, so i'll have to bum that live one off of Dan before i leave. What an adventure. We got lost in Little Havana in Miami while looking for the Polish American Club, where the show was at. What a cool venue. We rolled up about a half hour before six, and got a good place in line. We ate many chips once inside, and listened to an old Polack call the girls "fuckin broads" for "decorating" the bathroom. We think someone tagged it. The show was amazing. Good people, good times. What a great day. Blast Fax Kudos all around to Dan and Jess for picking up the tolls and gas. Oh yeah! I almost forgot, Jess came too. We picked her up at FIU, which has a very awesome campus. It was great to hangout, what a relaxing day.

Deathcab For Cutie - A movie Script Ending |

Seriously, this whole career-decision thing is tough. When it comes down to it, you gotta find something to do, to make money, so your parents don't have to support you forever.
But really, figuring out what i want to do is impossible. I've been sitting in this study room for three hours now trying to nail down some economics homework. It's been totally ineffective as i've lost my motivation and can't understand the concepts. I said that i wanted to switch my major to Economics, and i do love the subject...but not the way it's being taught. I know economics isn't entirely concept based, it IS alot of charts and graphs. But i feel like all i'm doing here is figuring out simple algabraeic things in order to complete online homework assignments that revolve around various charts and graphs. No concepts, no fun.
I have no idea what i want to be. I have absolutely no idea.
I told my parents over last weekend that i was giving up on any careers that required a heavy math-centric program. I'm done with math, i don't get it, i don't understand it, and for the most part i feel like the more advanced forms of mathematics are completely irrelevant to what i do on a day to day basis. I know that math can be called "the language of the universe" and i know that through a thorough grasp of mathematics you can, theoretically, understand alot of what's going on around you. But learning the math of economics or business just doesn't interest me. Boring. A bunch of irrelevant fucking numbers running around on a page hoping to cancel eachother out and multiply into things. Is giving up on math quitting? I don't know, but the conversation with the rents didn't go down too well. Dad kept reminding me of the extra 0's on my salary that i'd be giving up, mom kept reminding me that giving up is not good. But i don't feel like we're on the same page here. John Kux and math have never, ever agreed. I'm a writer and artist by nature, not some pencil-pushing accountant (hullo, pops!). I like photography, history, helping people, arguing about politics, bullshitting, etc. If you want the proof positive on paper then checkout my SAT scores: 480 Math, 690 Verbal. Going back even further, i never scored beyond the 70%tile on the FCAT in math, but always in the upper 90%'s on reading. It's not that i'm giving up on math, but in the spirit of collegiate career-exploration i've decided that just like criminology and communications - Math is something i just don't want to do with my life. And Economics? It's all math.
That being said, an unwillingness to accept math in my life certainly rules out Economics as a possible major. Business(my current major) is still a consideration, but what the hell would i do with a business degree? My over-arching master plan right now is to finish my undergrad with a degree in SOMETHING, and then advance in to law school. I like writing, i like arguing, and i like wearing suits. So lawschool should be a perfect fit..right? Right?! i hope, if not - i'm fucked! What if i decide to pursue something like Philosophy as an undergrad and then decide lawschool aint for me. What am i gonna do with that fancy Philosophy degree? Sit on a rock all day? Other major choices are Education, Social Work, Sports Management...eh...
I don't know, any input from you collegy types out there would be appreciated.
Boy what a hell of a week. Dogs dying, grandpas dying, and to top it all off my fucking suitemate jumped off the roof of Dodd Hall in a suicide attempt. What the fuck.

One day, i will go on a tour-de-force of many MLB Parks. It will be awesome. So far, my immediate must-see list is: 1. Fenway 2. Wrigley 3. Shea (will be impossible after 2008) 4. Camden Yards 5. Opening Day of Future SoFla Stadium(i can only hope.)
Of the three oldest parks in Baseball, i've already been to Yankee Stadium. So Wrigley Field and Fenway Park are mandatory must-see. Shea would be number 4 if its days weren't numbered. I want to see the Orioles at Camden Yards with Andrew. And hopefully, a new stadium will be built somehow, somewhere and with class for my Florida Marlins. I'll definitely be at the opening day for that, and i'm sure my entire family would come too. After that i don't have a particular list, i assume with my sister living in Texas i'll get out to Houston to see the Astros. I'll probably see a game or two at Turner Field in Atlanta sometime later this semester or at another point during my tenure at FSU. I'd also like to checkout the new Cardinals stadium, and AT & T Field, home of the San Francisco Giants. At each stadium I will purchase a fitted cap, this is a must!
wow i just spent about three hours online reading about the history of nearly every park, past and present, in MLB. Eh, at least i'll have some new random fact of completely irrelevant data to quote in conversation with Mike Miles.
